Unity has announced official support for developers working on projects for the new Nintendo Switch 2 console. This support will be available through the Unity 6 add-on for Nintendo approved developers, which expands the ability to create games across multiple platforms.

Here's What We Know

Developers working with the Nintendo Switch 2 can expect optimised rendering and performance, comprehensive multiplayer solutions, and improved development documentation. Unity also aims to simplify the process of porting existing games from the original Switch to the new console by ensuring full compatibility with key Unity 6 features such as updated input systems, build profiles, and the incremental build pipeline.

Unity CEO and President Matthew Bromberg said: "We are excited to offer official support for the Nintendo Switch 2." He also added that the company has tested its support by directly participating in the development of a game that will be available on the console's launch day. The feedback received during this process will help to further improve the Unity engine for developers creating new games for this gaming system.

Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled for release on 5 June. The base model of the console will cost $450, and a bundle with Mario Kart World will cost $500. Pre-orders will start on 9 April.
