Thai authorities organize "cryptocurrency tourism" for economic recovery
The Thai authorities have come up with an unusual way to restore the country's economy, which is almost entirely dependent on tourism. The idea is to attract holders of various cryptocurrencies to the country, and for this, the construction of the necessary infrastructure has begun to make it easy to make payments using digital money.
According to the head of the Ministry of Tourism of Thailand, Yutasaka Supasorn, his ministry is currently working to ensure that tourists can pay for everything using various cryptocurrencies. According to preliminary estimates, the ability to pay with digital money will allow the Thai economy to recover the $ 80 billion that the country lost during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As of today, cryptocurrencies are not recognized as official and legal tender in Thailand. This means that the implementation of this project will take quite a long time. The authorities intend to create a special ministry that will deal with issues related to the development of their own cryptocurrency and control of the work of various organizations conducting any cryptocurrency activities.
The initiative is already being discussed by the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Central Bank of Thailand and the country's largest cryptocurrency exchange Bitkub Online Go.
