After months of mass layoffs, companies in San Francisco's tech sector have stepped up hiring. The artificial intelligence boom has contributed in part to this.
Here's What We Know
San Francisco and neighboring San Mateo County added 2,800 jobs in the tech sector in May. According to the city's chief economist, Ted Egan, the region recovered 38% of jobs after a wave of industry layoffs that began in late 2022.
While the latest figures show an increase in hiring for AI jobs, they don't provide a breakdown between San Francisco and surrounding cities.
Egan also believes that the growth of the tech industry will not necessarily lead to new office space. He says remote working is becoming an ongoing trend for tech workers.
