Amazon removed fake AI books that were signed with the real writer's name
Amazon has removed half a dozen artificial intelligence-generated books published under the name of writer Jane Friedman.
Here's What We Know
According to Friedman, she was told about the fake books by a reader. At first he was surprised by the strange style of writing, not typical for the author. Soon he realised that these books were written by someone else.
Immediately after the discovery, Friedman filed a copyright infringement claim through Amazon's official form. The company requested a number of documents from her, but subsequently refused to remove the AI books.
Hours later, an Amazon spokesperson contacted Friedman and said that the case was being looked into further. A few days later, the platform did remove the AI books published on behalf of the writer.
Despite the positive outcome, Friedman fears that this is only the beginning of the struggle with technology in publishing. She says other authors with less ability to influence tech corporations may face similar problems in the future.
