Cruise's unmanned taxi gets stuck in wet cement in San Francisco
Days after Cruise received approval to operate a 24-hour robotaxi service in San Francisco, one of its vehicles got stuck in wet cement.
Here's What We Know
According to local media and social media users, the front tyres of Cruise's car were deeply buried in a drying section of a freshly paved road in San Francisco.
"It thinks it's a road and it ain't, because it ain't got a brain and it can't tell that it's freshly poured concrete" " said resident Paul Harvey.
He noted that the human eye can notice the contrast of different textures on the road next to the orange cones and make a correct guess. However, the similar colour tones of the street and wet cement confused the AI.
According to Cruise's social media posts, the car was quickly removed from the construction site.
Hi @Name_Is_Nobody - One of our AVs drove into a construction area and stopped in wet concrete. This vehicle has already been recovered and we're in communication with the city about this.
