DoorDash has launched AI technology for restaurants to automate taking phone orders

DoorDash has unveiled artificial intelligence-based technology that will allow restaurants to automatically take orders over the phone. The system will also provide users with personalised recommendations to complement their dining experience.

According to DoorDash, one in five customers prefer to order takeaway food using their phone, but up to 50 per cent of calls go unanswered. This can lead to potential lost revenue.

The DoorDash system combines artificial intelligence with live agents to ensure customer calls are answered with little to no wait time. During busy times in restaurants, AI will take orders, allowing workers to focus on customers.

Customers can place orders in multiple languages. Regular users will be given the option to quickly re-order their favourite dish. Operator support can also be requested at any time.
