There has been a road accident in San Francisco in which a pedestrian was "stuck" underneath a Cruise robot taxi. Police are investigating whether a human-driven vehicle may have been involved in the accident.
Here's What We Know
The driver hit the female pedestrian, throwing her back onto the road where the Cruise robotaxi was travelling. The drone braked and its rear wheel remained on the victim's leg, fire service officials said.
After the auto was disabled, the pedestrian was able to be extracted with rescue tools.
Cruise said the pedestrian was "ejected" in front of the robotaxi well after the other auto struck. The robotaxi braked "aggressively" to minimise the collision and the driver of the second car fled the scene.
(1/3) At approximately 9:30 pm on October 2, a human-driven vehicle struck a pedestrian while travelling in the lane immediately to the left of a Cruise AV. The initial impact was severe and launched the pedestrian directly in front of the AV.
