OpenAI has confirmed that a distributed DDoS attack is the cause of periodic outages in ChatGPT and its developer tools

ChatGPT has been experiencing intermittent outages for the past few days. Users were receiving a message that the service was at capacity and were unable to use it.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman initially blamed the problem on interest in new features of the platform. On 8 November, the company announced that the problem had been fixed.
However, OpenAI has since updated its incident report page and said there are still "intermittent outages" with ChatGPT and the API. The company attributed this to a massive DDoS attack.

OpenAI did not provide additional information. However, hacker group Anonymous Sudan has claimed responsibility for the alleged attack. Despite the name, security researchers have linked it to Russia.
The hackers motivated this by the fact that OpenAI is exploring the possibility of investing in Israel. The group has previously attacked Microsoft, NATO and other organisations.
Also this week, rival chatbot Claude from Anthropic experienced glitches. It is not yet clear if there is a connection between the incidents.
