Elon Musk's artificial intelligence startup xAI, which created the chatbot Grok, has received the status of a benefit corporation in the state of Nevada.
Here's What We Know
In a statement, the company said its goal is to "make a significant positive impact on society". The move will allow xAI to follow the lead of other AI tech startups like OpenAI and Anthropic.
Charitable corporation status comes with certain legal advantages, such as limiting the ability to be sued by outside individuals and organisations.
At the same time, xAI, like other similar companies, attracts significant investments from venture capital funds and technology giants. Investors in Musk's social network X own 25 per cent of the shares.
Experts note the focus of such AI startups on creating an image of companies that benefit society, which should strengthen users' trust in their products.
