LG plans to unveil its "agent" at CES 2024, an AI-powered robot that makes everyday life easier

LG Electronics is preparing to unveil an artificial intelligence smart assistant at CES 2024, which does not yet have an official commercial name and is currently known as LG's smart home AI agent. LG's smart home AI agent is a robot with artificial intelligence and multimodal technologies. These are technologies that use two or more different channels to transmit information. For example, multimodal technologies can use text, sound, video, or touch inputs. This enables it to move, learn, understand, and carry on complex conversations. LG's robot is designed to improve users' daily lives and is a step towards the company's vision of a "Zero Labour Home", a home with zero daily work.

Thanks to its original two-legged wheel design, the LG Agent is able to move freely around the home. The device can interact with users verbally and express emotions, thanks to the motion capabilities provided by the articulated joints in its legs. In addition, the use of multimodal AI technology, which combines voice and visual recognition with natural language processing, allows the smart home assistant to understand context and intent, and actively communicate with users.

Functioning as a moving part of a smart home, this home assistant connects and controls smart appliances and IoT devices in the home. LG has joined forces with Qualcomm to equip this home assistant with the Qualcomm Robotics RB5 platform, enabling it to work with on-device AI features such as face and user recognition. The intelligent assistant uses a built-in camera, speaker, and a variety of sensors to collect real-world data about the environment, including temperature, humidity, and air quality inside the home. Using LG's artificial intelligence technology, this data is constantly analysed, studied and combined with external information. The home assistant will even be able to act as a pet care and security assistant, allowing users to remotely monitor and care for their pets, and receive alerts when any unusual activity is detected.

The LG Agent will be able to patrol the home when no one is home, moving from room to room, and send alerts to the user's smartphone if it detects an open window or lights left on. In addition, it helps to save energy by connecting to a smart socket and switching off unused devices that are left on.

It is worth noting that in the last few years, each CES exhibition has been a platform where other manufacturers (for example, Samsung Ballie in 2020, we can also recall Kuri robots or Panasonic robot in 2017, Aeolus in 2018 or ASUS Zenbo, although it was presented in 2016 at Computex) have already presented robots that are supposed to perform the functions of home assistants, but these products remained concepts and did not reach store shelves. We'll find out next year whether LG's agent will be an exception to this list or remain an interesting concept.
