Apple is close to finalising a generative artificial intelligence tool for iOS app developers. It is scheduled to be released for third-party programmers as early as this year.
Here's What We Know
According to Bloomberg, the tech giant is working on a feature that will use AI to write code as part of a revamp of its core Xcode development environment. The system will be a competitor to Microsoft's GitHub Copilot solution, which operates on a similar principle.
Apple is also developing an AI-powered tool for generating application test code. This could potentially save developers time on the labour-intensive testing process.
The company is currently testing these features with engineers before bringing them to market.
Apple's plans come as the giant lags behind leaders in generative AI - such as OpenAI, Google and Microsoft. They came to light just weeks after Tim Cook announced the company's upcoming AI products this year.
