BAE Systems has revealed progress on the development of Europe's sixth-generation Tempest fighter aircraft

BAE Systems has published a short video showing images of Europe's sixth-generation fighter jet. The company also talked a bit about the progress of the aircraft's development.

Here's What We Know

The sixth-generation fighter is called Tempest, after the British Hawker Tempest fighter (pictured below) from World War II. Development is taking place as part of the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP).

Despite the images appearing, BAE Systems has not yet chosen a final design for the sixth-generation fighter. Discussions on the appearance are still underway. A decision on the design of the aircraft will be made by 2025.

The Tempest will enter service in 2035. The fighter will enter service with the countries involved in the project (UK, Italy and Japan). In addition, BAE Systems intends to sell the aircraft to other customers.
