An unknown kamikaze drone completely destroyed a Tu-22M3 strategic bomber right at an airfield in russia
On the previous day, information appeared about a kamikaze drone attack on the Russian airfield of Soltsy in the Novgorod region. Today, photos of a burning Tu-22M3 strategic bomber were published.
Here's What We Know
The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation confirmed the attack and stated that one aircraft was damaged. At the same time, the type was not specified. At the same time, Russian media wrote about the damage to two aircraft.
As we can see, there were indeed Tu-22M3 strategic bombers stationed at the airfield, which is 700 kilometres from the border with Ukraine. Today, images have emerged that show the supersonic aircraft burning to the ground.
The Tu-22M3 is a long-range bomber capable of carrying nuclear weapons. In the war against Ukraine, it is used to launch Kh-22 anti-ship cruise missiles, which can fly at high speed at low altitude, causing problems for air defences.
It is important to note that production of the Tu-22M3 has already ended. The bomber entered service in the mid-1980s. Over 22 years, almost 500 supersonic Tu-22M aircraft in various modifications were produced. Russia is believed to have about 60 Tu-22M3 bombers in service, but not all are in operational condition.
