Russia's newest ship Cyclone with Onyx anti-ship missiles and Kalibr cruise missiles went on combat duty for the first time in the Black Sea
The Russian Federation has put the small missile ship Cyclone of Project 22800 on combat duty in the Black Sea for the first time. It joined the fleet just over a month ago.
Here's What We Know
Cyclone is one of the four operating ships of the 3rd rank of Project 22800. It was launched on 24 July 2020. It was commissioned into the Russian Federation's Black Sea Fleet on 12 July 2023. The other three ships ("Mytishchi", "Sovetsk" and "Odintsovo") are in the Baltic Fleet.
Cyclone is 67 metres long, 11 metres wide, with a draft of 4 metres and a total displacement of 870 tonnes. The propulsion system is represented by three diesel engines M507D-1 and three diesel generators DGA-315-1 with a capacity of 5884 kW and 315 kW respectively.
The ship is equipped with the Mineral-M radar station, AK-630 automatic artillery systems, as well as Igla-S, Verba and Pantsir-ME surface-to-air missile systems. Orlan-10 reconnaissance drones may be on board.
Cyclone in the future will be armed with hypersonic missiles Zirkon. For now, the ship's 3S14 vertical launch systems can launch Kalibr cruise missiles and Onyx anti-ship missiles.
