EA announces the end of support for Battlefield 1, Battlefield 5 and Star Wars Battlefront 2 on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1
Electronic Arts has announced that it is discontinuing support for Battlefield 1, Battlefield 5, and Star Wars Battlefront II for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. The news was announced on the official Battlefield 1 forums.
Here's What We Know
According to the EA community manager, this decision is due to the fact that Microsoft stopped supporting outdated versions of Windows earlier this year. To understand the context, Microsoft completed security updates and technical support for Windows 7 in January 2020 and ended support for Windows 8.1 in January 2023.
Electronic Arts is not alone in its decision to stop supporting old platforms - earlier it was reported that Google Chrome, Steam, Microsoft Edge, Nvidia, AMD, and a host of other companies will stop or have already stopped supporting outdated OSes. This is not surprising, as Windows 7 was released in 2009 and Windows 8.1 in 2013, which is a long time ago for an operating system.
It is important to note that players using Windows 10 and Windows 11 can still enjoy playing Battlefield 1, Battlefield 5, and Star Wars Battlefront 2.
