Gwent: Rogue Mage card game to be released today

At the beginning of the year, CD Projekt RED presented Project Golden Nekker, a single-player card game based on Gwent. Today it came to the official announcement - meet GWENT: Rogue Mage.

The IGN shares details about the new product:

  • The game is built on the basis of the multiplayer "Gwent", but will be sold separately.
  • The wizard Alzur in the center of Rogue Mage. He is trying to create the first wizard. The events take place hundreds of years before the birth of Geralt. However, according to the game director, the first place here is the gameplay - the plot is not even considered part of the canon.
  • The game has "rogue" elements, that is, it is designed for multiple playthroughs. From the description, Rogue Mage is kind of like Slay the Spire - you get on a map, make your way through it, and fight a boss at the end. With each race, the user is leveled up, which expands the range of available cards and their power.
  • Rogue Mage is beginner-friendly—you'll start out with about a dozen cards in your deck, and each of the four decks is centered around an easy-to-understand theme. In particular, the first deck is dedicated to strengthening cards.
  • New maps can be found as you explore the world. They are usually issued one at a time so that the user gradually learns the mechanics.
  • According to the estimate, it will take more than 30 hours to complete and collect everything. However, in general, Rogue Mage is designed for short sessions - a single run takes anywhere from a few minutes (if you don't handle the difficulty and lose) to an hour with a small one.
  • The game contains dozens of modifiers that allow you to adjust the difficulty to your liking.
  • The project idea was born at the end of 2019. Initially, they wanted to divide the campaign into several parts to release them as small paid DLCs for the main "GWENT". However, later on the scale grew and Rogue Mage became a standalone game.
  • Rogue Mage does not require an Internet connection - only optional features such as leaderboards and cross-saves work over the network.

GWENT: Rogue Mage launches July 7 on PC, iOS, and Android. The cost of the standard edition is $9.99, and for the premium version with "cosmetics" and multiplayer card sets, they will ask $19.99.
