Impressive anti-record: Beyond Good & Evil 2 became the longest-developed game, surpassing even Duke Nukem Forever
When it comes to the longest-developed games, gamers immediately think of the infamous shooter Duke Nukem Forever from 3D Realms and Gearbox Software. It took 14 years to create! Because of that Duke made it into the Guinness Book of World Records as "the game that was in production the longest". Sadly, when Duke Nukem Forever did get released, the game was not appreciated by either old fans or new audiences. "14 years wasted" is how one might call the fate of this project.
However, the Guinness World Records goes to other hands. Development of Ubisoft's adventure action game Beyond Good & Evil 2 has already surpassed Duke Nukem Forever! The game was announced in 2008, then in 2017 the first gameplay footage was presented and since then - silence. Even the creator and visionary of Beyond Good & Evil 2, Michela Ancela, left the development team, desperate to release it.
Those who still hope to wait for Beyond Good & Evil 2 release can take solace from the insider Tom Henderson's information. His sources say that the development of the project continues, but before the end of the work takes ... a few years!
