Activision calls Epic's latest allegations in Google lawsuit "nonsense"
In a new court filing, Epic Games claims that Google paid $360 million to Activision not to develop its own game store.
Here's What We Know
Activision itself called the statement from Epic Games "nonsense". The accusation was revealed in an unredacted complaint filed earlier this week as part of Epic's ongoing lawsuit against Google, which also claims that a similar deal was reached with League of Legends studio Riot Games.
"Some of these agreements were intended to prevent developers from launching competing app stores and to stop them, which in itself is a violation of antitrust laws," Epic's lawsuit says. "Other agreements were intended to illegally prevent developers from making Android apps and other unique content outside of Google Play."
Flashback
Epic Games filed a lawsuit in August 2020 against Apple for its "monopolistic policies" in the App Store, as well as against Google for requiring developers in the Play Store to use its billing system through a payment processing program that requires developers to pay a 30% commission on the payment amount. It did this after Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store for Epic Games adding a way to make in-game purchases bypassing Apple's commission.
