EU authorities threatened Musk with blocking Twitter in Europe or a huge fine

Elon Musk's problems with Twitter began from the first days of its acquisition.

Many controversial decisions of the new owner of the social network led to scandals.

And now Musk is facing new troubles.

Here's What We Know

Representatives of the European Union (EU) sent an official warning to Twitter management that they needed to follow the rules of content moderation and fight disinformation on their platform.

The disinformation clause is primarily related to misinformation spread by a number of accounts about the COVID-19 pandemic. "Effective Nov. 23, 2022, Twitter no longer has a policy against misleading information about COVID-19," reads the notice posted in the social network's rules section. And immediately after the cancellation of moderation, a bacchanalia of opponents of vaccination and those who deny the existence of the coronavirus infection began (Musk is one of them, by the way).

The EU also has complaints about the policy of unblocking banned accounts.

According to the Financial Times, EU Commissioner Thierry Breton, who is responsible for implementing the EU's digital policy, warned Elon Musk during a video conference that the EU would block Twitter on its territory or punish it with a fine of 6% of the company's global income if Twitter's management did not heed their recommendations.
