Critics and players praised Need for Speed: Unbound
Need for Speed: Unbound is released.
The promos had mixed reactions from the gaming community, and it was hard to assess the quality of the game. One day after the release of Unbound, we can summarize the intermediate results.
Here's What We Know
The new part of the racing franchise from Electronic Arts has been positively received by both players and critics. At the time of writing the news on the aggregators are such estimates:
- on Metacritic the PS5 version has 80 points and 7.8 points from users;
- on Opencritic - 82 points;
- Steam with 81% positive reviews.
Players note the excellent technical condition of the game, quality optimization, comfortable controls, deep customization and improved vehicle physics. Need for Speed: Unbound sound designers deserve a special mention, their work is unanimously praised by all players. This applies to both the selection of soundtracks and the overall soundtrack.
The rare negative reviews relate to the story, which for some reason the developers decided to put a lot of emphasis on. It does not evoke any emotions and feels only as an excuse for another run.
The main feature of Unbound - the visuals in anime style - is also ambiguously accepted. Not everyone liked them, and the only thing that saved EA from a complete failure of this idea was the fact that they can be turned off.
In general, players agree that Unbound is better than many parts of Need for Speed, but inferior to some genre rivals.
