Unreal Engine 5, an open world, and a unique dialogue system: Cliffhanger Games' job listing reveals more details of Black Panther, the upcoming game in the Marvel universe

On 10 July, Electronic Arts announced that a game set in the Marvel universe about the Black Panther is currently being developed. At the time, there were very few details, but eXputer found some interesting information among the list of Cliffhanger Games' jobs that may shed light on some aspects of the upcoming game.

Here's What We Know

The first thing that was noticed in the vacancy announcement for a senior game designer is that the game will be in an open world. Given that most recent superhero games are open-world, Black Panther will continue this trend.

Also, the vacancy for a senior software engineer for tools and systems states that the game is being developed on the Unreal Engine 5 game engine.

And now the most interesting part. The job posting for a gameplay engineer mentions that it should be an action role-playing game with a unique dialogue system. If you recall previous Marvel games, such as Marvel's Spider-Man or Guardians of the Galaxy, they were not even close to role-playing and players could not influence the world or characters through their actions. Therefore, Black Panther should (theoretically) have its own peculiarities.

One important detail needs to be clarified here: the game is being developed by Cliffhanger Games, headed by Kevin Stephens, who once worked at Monolith Studios. This studio is known for the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of War games. These games are also role-playing games and they had a Nemesis system that worked as follows: when you meet an enemy and he defeats you, he can grow in rank and become stronger. And if you defeat him, you can influence his fate by killing him or pardoning him. If you do not kill him, the enemy may remember this act of mercy and even become your ally in the future.

So, most likely, Kevin decided to take the concept from Middle-earth and rework it for Black Panther.

Flashback

Electronic Arts is also currently The authors of the Dead Space remake have already begun active development of the Iron Man game, but this time about Iron Man. No specific details about the game have been announced yet, but it is known that it will be an action game.
