Great gameplay, boring story and few innovations - critics did not agree on Assassin's Creed Shadows

Assassin's Creed Shadows will be released as early as tomorrow - 20 March. Fans of the series have been asking Ubisoft to release an action game set in the setting of feudal Japan for over a decade, but as soon as the game was announced it was heavily criticised for a variety of reasons.
Gamers are sceptical about Shadows and are not sure in the success of the game, but the first critics who got acquainted with the novelty were more positive.
Here's What We Know
Reviewers, journalists and bloggers published their reviews of Assassin's Creed Shadows and most of them were satisfied with the game. Experts note that it is similar to the first part in many ways, first of all the structure of the plot, but at the same time it borrows and develops many mechanics of the "mythological trilogy".
Shadows has an excellent combat system - it makes you approach duels more thoughtfully; a beautiful and spacious open world, with less rudimentary activities and more emphasis on the contemplation of the surrounding nature; not bad stealth mechanics - you can further complicate them in the game settings, and enemies (you won't believe it!) will start looking not only under your feet, but also on the roofs, which will make the passage more interesting and difficult.
Another undoubted plus of the action can be called the presence of two completely different heroes, which differ in character, behaviour, principles, manner of fighting and a set of weapons. You can switch between them almost at any moment.
But one of the main disadvantages of Assassin's Creed Shadows is the plot - it seemed to many journalists boring, predictable and does not cause almost any emotions. Characters do not make you empathize with their story, which devalues the choice of lines in dialogue and decision-making, which are presented as important, but have little impact.
In addition, Ubisoft, according to its tradition, has spared on significant innovations, so from cardinally new mechanics we can single out only the possibility to interact with lighting objects (torches, candles, bonfires) and free construction of your settlement, but even this mechanics is only a development of Valhalla's ideas. But it is impossible not to mention the excellent sound and music accompaniment.
In general, Assassin's Creed Shadows turned out to be a very ambiguous game, but its average score is quite high.
On aggregators, the game received the following scores:
- Opencritic - 81 points with 83% of recommendations;
- Metacritic - from 78 to 87 points depending on the platform.
