It looks like Professor Farnsworth has finally created one of the deadliest superweapons in the world of Futurama
Futurama is back on television screens, which means that Planet Express boss - and mad scientist - Professor Farnsworth will inevitably endanger the crew, Earth and possibly the entire universe. However, none of Farnsworth's schemes or inventions are comparable in danger to the one that nearly led to the planet's destruction in issue 27 of Bongo Comics' Futurama.
Here's What We Know
In Futurama Comics #27, written by Eric Rogers and drawn by John Delaney, we are introduced to one of Professor Farnsworth's most successful and potentially destructive inventions: a ship capable of travelling inside the Earth's crust. When this technology fell into the wrong hands, it was up to Bender, Fry, and Leela to save the Earth. Although they succeeded, Farnsworth's ships penetrating the Earth's crust could have devastating consequences if they ended up in the wrong hands.
Professor Farnsworth is always portrayed as a man with no regard for the lives of his crew. In Bongo's Futurama comics, just a few issues before his crust-penetrating ship nearly destroys the Earth, he nearly kills all of the Planet Express staff, creating the sinister Golden Bender.
In issue 27 of Futurama, "Rotten to the Core", it's revealed that Farnsworth's invention, essentially a model of the Planet Express ship with a giant drill on the front, has fallen into the hands of the Magmoids - Bender sold it to them at a garage sale, of course - and they're using it to mine the Earth's crust to rebuild their planet, causing widespread destruction in the process.
Of course, Farnsworth created a second ship, which Fry, Leela, and Bender use to go inside the Earth's crust, where they defeat the Magmoids and save the Earth.
The ease with which the ship penetrated the planet showed how effective a weapon it could be. And while Professor Farnsworth's backup ship ultimately saved the day, he was happy to be able to pay off the creation of the first one.
