Microsoft signs agreement with energy company Ørsted to reduce carbon emissions from wood burning

Microsoft has supported a major plan to capture carbon dioxide emissions from a wood-fired power plant. The company has signed a deal with Danish energy company Ørsted to purchase credits that will capture more than 2.76 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide over 11 years.

According to Ørsted, this is one of the largest deals the company has made to date to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Microsoft itself sees this as another step towards its goal of becoming a negative carbon footprint producer by 2030, meaning that the company will remove more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than it produces through its operations.

However, some researchers question Microsoft's climate change strategy, as the technology for capturing carbon dioxide emissions is still in its infancy. Ørsted itself said that the project was only made possible with the support of Microsoft and Danish government subsidies.
