ESRB assigns Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III a Mature (17+) rating and hints at the appearance of the "No Russian" mission

The ESRB, an organisation that evaluates and assigns age ratings to video games, has published more information about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, where we learned a little more about the plot and the rating it received.

Here's What We Know

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III has been rated Mature (playable from the age of 17).

Note that what follows will contain spoilers of the game's plot and Modern Warfare II.

The website states that players take on the roles of special forces soldiers who are chasing a fugitive terrorist to prevent a global war. Players take part in military missions and use machine guns, rifles, rocket launchers and explosives to kill enemy soldiers. Shootouts are accompanied by frequent gunfire, powerful explosions, screams of pain, and blood splatter effects.

Now for the details. There will be scenes depicting more intense acts of violence in the game: terrorists hijacking a plane; terrorists (disguised as police officers and paramedics) shooting/killing fleeing civilians in the stadium stands; passengers being shot on the plane; prisoners being shot in their cells. So we are likely to see the "No Russian" mission again. Hints of this could be seen in the post-credits scene of Modern Warfare II (2022), where a man on a plane was picking up a gun and sending a "No Russian" text message.

There was also a mention that the game will have a final skill where marijuana smoke from a bong can be released into the enemy's face. It sounds very strange and it's even hard to imagine what it will look like. Also, the words "f**k" and "sh*t" appear in the game.

When We Can Expect It

From 6 to 7 October, the game will be beta-tested for PlayStation players who pre-ordered it. From 8 to 10 October, the beta test will be held for all PlayStation players. From 12 to 13 October, the beta test will be held on Xbox, PC, and PS for players who have pre-ordered the game. And from 14 to 16 October, the beta test will take place for everyone.

The full release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III will take place on 10 November on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series, and Xbox One.
