The cubic empire: Minecraft has sold more than 300 million copies over the 14 years of its existence

After the presentation of Minecraft Live 2023, where the developers talked about the game's updates, it became known that more than 300 million copies of Minecraft have been sold since the first version was released in 2009.

Here's What We Know

This figure makes Minecraft the best-selling game in history (except for Tetris). For comparison, GTA V sold 185 million copies. It is still hard to imagine that any game will be able to overtake Minecraft, as it sold 200 million copies back in 2020.

Helen Chiang, Vice President of the Minecraft franchise and Head of Mojang Studios, commented on this event:

As we approach our 15th anniversary, Minecraft remains one of the best-selling games of all time, with over 300 million copies sold, something no one could have dreamed of when we all placed our first blocks. Our incredible community has made Minecraft what it is today and what it will become in the future. We look forward to sharing more content and experiences in Minecraft in the years to come.

Mojang also showed an infographic with some interesting numbers. Every day, 15 million skeletons are killed in Minecraft, 8.8 million picks are crafted, 400,000 wolves are tamed, and 6.7 million diamonds are found.

These figures are based on average activity between September and October 2023.
