Remedy has wanted to make a game with two protagonists since Quantum Break, but was only able to implement the idea in Alan Wake 2
Fans have been waiting for Alan Wake 2 for 13 years. The release will take place on 27 October, and the game will be the biggest in Remedy's history. One of the biggest innovations that will be in the game is two main characters: Alan Wake and Saga Anderson. But how did the studio come up with the idea to create two protagonists? Game designer Kyle Rowley told about this in an interview with Gamingbolt.
Here's What We Know
The idea of two playable characters existed even before the studio started developing the AW 2 concept. It was Sam Lake's idea, dating back to the days when Remedy was working on Quantum Break. The team didn't know how this idea would work, how the game structure would be built, but they knew they wanted to do it, even though they were failing.
Kylie also said that the Saga helps to make it easier for new players who are not familiar with the events of the first game. After all, she doesn't know about the events of Alan Wake 1 either, but step by step she will learn about what happened 13 years ago, so new players should feel the same way as the new heroine.
It was also important for Remedy that when switching between characters, it would not feel like you have to learn how to play a new game every time, but at the same time, the studio wanted each of the characters to feel unique.
When We Can Expect It
Alan Wake 2 will be released on October 27 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.
