Bloomberg: Embracer Group holding company has cancelled development of the long-awaited Deus Ex sequel
In September 2022, the studio Eidos Montréal became part of the Embracer Group holding company, which allowed fans to hope for a new part of the Deus Ex franchise, as the previous owner Square Enix was not interested in continuing the series.
As it turned out, the hopes of Deus Ex fans were in vain.
Here's What We Know
Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier reported that Embracer Group has decided to cancel the development of a new part of the franchise Deus Ex, on which the Canadian studio has been working for two years.
It was expected that full production of the game will start by the end of 2024, but now the developer will focus on a completely new project.
At the same time, as part of the restructuring of the Embracer Group, a wave of layoffs took place in Eidos Montréal.
Recall, the last full-fledged part of Deus Ex with the subtitle Mankind Divided was released in 2016, and its plot was cut off halfway through, which only adds to the tragic nature of the cancellation of the new game.
