Historical context, high non-linearity and a filled open world: new details of the action game Rise of the Ronin have become known

Game Informer interviewed developers from Team Ninja studio, who are developing Rise of the Ronin - the next PlayStation 5 exclusive.

We offer to read the most interesting theses.

Here's What We Know

Rise of the Ronin is Team Ninja's first fully open-world game. Despite the lack of experience in developing such projects, the Japanese developers are optimistic and are confident that players will enjoy travelling through the locations they have created.

  • The events of Rise of the Ronin will unfold in the late XIX century, when Japan was in a severe crisis and was plunged into the chaos of civil war. The game will have the most down-to-earth plot without elements of mysticism and fantasy. The story will be fictional, but it will be intertwined with real events from the history of Japan;
  • players will meet real historical characters during the course of Rise of the Ronin;
  • the events of Rise of the Ronin have a significant non-linearity, thanks to which the player will be able to influence the course of history and make crucial decisions. For example, gamers will be able to spare a character, kill him or act in other ways;
  • The game will take place in three cities: Yokohama, Kyoto and Edo (now Tokyo);
  • The protagonist will be a nameless Ronin (a warrior without a lord), nicknamed Veiled Edge;
  • players will be able to travel on horseback and in a glider. In addition, the character has a special hook for rapid climbing in the air and on vertical surfaces;
  • Secondary characters can give the hero special tasks, which will improve their relationship, which will affect the overall plot of the game;
  • as in Souls-like games, after death the player loses experience points, which in Rise of the Ronin are called "Karma", but they can be regained before the next death.

When We Can Expect It

Rise of the Ronin will release on 22 March 2024 on PS5.
