What key features should i look for in the best projector for skytrak?

I’m in the process of setting up my SkyTrak golf simulator and need some advice on finding the best projector. I’ve done a bit of research, but I’d love to hear from others who’ve already been through this.

From what I’ve gathered, these are the key features to look for, but I’m not sure if I’m missing something:

1. Resolution - I’ve read that at least 1080p is a must, but is 4K really worth it for SkyTrak? I don’t think the software is 4K-native, so would it still make a noticeable difference?

2. Brightness (Lumens) - A lot of people mention that around 2,500 lumens is good, but my room isn’t completely dark. Should I aim for something closer to 3,000 lumens or more?

3. Throw Distance - I’ve seen some mention of short throw projectors being ideal for smaller spaces. My room isn’t huge, so I’m thinking this might be important. Anyone have experience with ultra-short throw projectors for this setup?

4. Input Lag - I’m also worried about input lag since SkyTrak relies on precise measurements and timing. Is this a big issue with projectors, or is it just something to watch out for when gaming?

Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences, especially if you’ve found a projector that works well with SkyTrak!

Great question! Another thing to consider is the screen size you’re projecting onto. If you’re going with a larger screen, you may want to prioritize a projector with a higher lumen count to maintain image quality. Also, be mindful of aspect ratio - most projectors for SkyTrak are best suited for 16:9, but depending on your screen size, you might have to adjust.

Also look at keystone correction and lens shift features. They make a huge difference when you don’t have a perfectly aligned room. I have a slightly off-center setup and found that having good keystone correction on my SkyTrak projector saved me a ton of headaches.

Don’t forget about throw ratio, man!!! Depending on how far back your projector is going to be from your screen, you’ll need to make sure the projector’s throw ratio matches the space. A short throw projector is great if you’re working in a smaller room, but double-check that your space will fit the specific model you choose.

I’ve been using a BenQ TH671ST with my SkyTrak for the past year, and it’s been fantastic. It’s a short throw projector, which is great for smaller spaces, and the 1080p resolution looks super crisp on my screen. In terms of brightness, it’s got 3,000 lumens, so no issues even with a little ambient light in the room. I didn’t see the need to go 4K since SkyTrak doesn’t support it natively. Definitely recommend this model if you’re looking for the best projector for SkyTrak golf simulator.

I’d also consider your cable management. Some projectors are bulkier, and if you’re mounting it to the ceiling for your SkyTrak golf simulator, you’ll need to plan out your power and HDMI cable routing. It’s easy to overlook this until you’ve already set everything up!

I’m using epson hc 2150 projector with mine, and it still works fine! I think as long as the basics like resolution and brightness are good, you don’t have to spend a ton of money.

Forget projectors, just use your imagination! The best simulator is your mind, man!!! Nah, just close your eyes and swing XDDD

I’m still in the process of setting up my simulator and haven’t chosen a projector yet. Following this thread closely! I think I’ll probably stick with 1080p and aim for at least 2,500 lumens, based on what I’m reading here. Thanks for the suggestions so far!
