This was written by the KCNA news agency, which is the mouthpiece of the DPRK government. On 21 August, as part of tests, the Amnok-class corvette launched a cruise missile in the waters of the Sea of Japan.
The type of missile is not officially specified, but judging by the image, it is Hwasal-2. It has a maximum range of 2,000 kilometres. Previously, the North Korean military used ground-based launchers to launch Hwasal-2.
Hwasal-2 is the DPRK's new subsonic cruise missile. It entered service two years ago, but its existence was officially classified until February 2023. The missile is 6 metres long and 60 cm in diameter.
