The US Department of Defence has allocated $2.18 billion to support and maintain guidance systems in Trident II intercontinental ballistic missiles

The Charles Stark Draper Laboratory has signed a large contract with the US Department of Defence on Trident II intercontinental ballistic missiles. This is reported on the Pentagon's website.

Here's What We Know

The lab has been awarded $2.18bn for technical and engineering support for the Mark 6 navigation systems used in Trident II intercontinental ballistic missiles. The contract will also fund efforts to develop the Mark 7 navigation system.

The agreement runs through 30 September 2028. Work under the contract will take place at Charles Stark Draper Laboratory facilities in Massachusetts, Florida, Alabama, Indiana and Washington, DC.

Carriers of Trident II intercontinental ballistic missiles are British and American submarines of the Vanguard and Ohio classes, respectively. In the future, the missiles will be armed with the Dreadnought (UK) and Columbia (US) submarines.

A few days ago, Lockheed Martin tested a Trident II (D5) Life Extension intercontinental ballistic missile. The US Navy's Ohio-class nuclear-powered submarine USS Louisiana (SSN 743) was used for the launch.
