Lockheed Martin has been awarded $67.5 million to produce PrSM ballistic missiles with a launch range of up to 500 kilometres to replace ATACMS
Lockheed Martin has been awarded another Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) production contract. The funding was announced on the Pentagon's official website.
Here's What We Know
The US Department of Defence has awarded the company $67.5m for the third batch of ballistic missiles to achieve early operational readiness. The deadline for the contract is dated 30 September 2026.
PrSM is a short-range ballistic missile. It currently has a launch range of 60-500 kilometres, but Lockheed Martin and the US Army plan to at least double that range in the future.
The ballistic missile is designed for the M270 MLRS and M142 HIMARS platforms. The PrSM will allow the US Army to abandon ATACMS missiles, which can engage targets within a radius of 300 kilometres. Australia has become a foreign customer, while the UK is a potential PrSM customer.
