Warsaw protected by missile defence system for the first time in history - Poland deploys Patriot surface-to-air missile systems
For the first time in history, Poland is protecting the airspace above the capital with missile defence systems. This was announced by Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak.

The head of the defence ministry called the event historic and a turning point. According to him, after a long break, air defence is returning to Warsaw. Moreover, the capital of the republic will be additionally protected by missile defence. This will happen for the first time.
Poland has decided to deploy Patriot surface-to-air missile defence systems. Mariusz Blaszczak called the US missile defence system the most modern equipment in the world. The duty will begin tomorrow, October 6.
The US State Department recently approved the potential sale of the Integrated Air and Missile Defence Battle Command System (IMAD IBCS) to Poland. The European country became the first IBCS operator outside the US.
The $4bn IBSC deal was approved in mid-September. A week earlier, Poland announced the purchase of six Patriot batteries comprising 48 M903 launchers and Patriot Advanced Capability 3 (PAC-3) Missile Segment Enhanced (MSE) missile interceptors.
