German defence concern Rheinmetall may set up a joint venture in Ukraine. It will be based in Kyiv.
Here's What We Know
Such a statement was made by the company Rheinmetall itself after receiving permission from the Federal Antitrust Office of Germany. The joint venture will be based in the capital of Ukraine.
The regulator's statement says that the defence enterprise will provide service, maintenance, development, production and assembly of vehicles. At the initial stage of development it will operate only in Ukraine without creating competition for German firms in Germany.
The joint venture will initially focus on the maintenance and repair of German vehicles that were handed over to the Ukrainian Armed Forces after the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation. In the future, it is expected to transfer technology and launch production of Rheinmetall military equipment in Ukraine.
