UK orders unmanned Camcopter S-100 helicopters for Royal Navy
Shiebel will manufacture and supply Camcopter S-100 unmanned helicopters for the UK Royal Navy. The United Kingdom is buying the drones as part of the Peregrine programme.
Here's What We Know
The Camcopter S-100 is equipped with a suite of maritime surveillance and protection sensors for the Type 23 frigates, which are in service with the UK Royal Navy during operational missions. Thales will supply additional sensors and a reconnaissance, surveillance, reconnaissance system.
The unmanned helicopter for the UK Royal Navy will be equipped with Thales I-Master radar, an EO/IR camera and will receive an Automatic Identification System (AIS). These technologies enable the drone to perform unknown target identification missions regardless of weather conditions.
The Camcopter S-100 has a cruising speed of 100 km/h and a top speed of 220 km/h. The helicopter can stay in the air for at least 6 hours with a payload of 25 kg. The UAV is equipped with Austro Engine AE50R Wankel rated at 55 hp (41 kW).
