In September, we will learn more about the Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) programme, under which the US Navy and Air Force will develop slave drones to work together with manned aircraft. The Russian Federation is also working on a similar project.

Here's What We Know

The Russian drone is called "Hunter". It will be able to work together with the Su-57 fifth-generation fighter. Russian officials say that deliveries of the Su-57 began last year, by the end of next year there will be 22 aircraft in service, and by 2027 production of fighters with sixth-generation engines will be launched.

"Hunter", like the US CCA drones, will be able to conduct reconnaissance, lure out enemy missiles and strike enemy positions. Moreover, the drone will be armed with the same missiles as the Su-57, including the R-77M and X-59MK2 air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles, respectively.

The drone will have a take-off weight of 20,000kg and a maximum speed of 1,000km/h. Russia's Sukhoi plans to complete all state trials of the Okhotnik drone by the end of this year.
