Ukraine buys more than half of global production of civilian DJI Mavic quadcopters
Ukraine has become the largest buyer of DJI Mavic drones due to the war against Russia. The country buys more than half of the global production of these drones.
Here's What We Know
Such a statement was made by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmigal. According to him, the government has allocated UAH 40 billion (more than $1 billion) for the purchase of drones in 2023.
This amount includes not only civilian quadrocopters of the DJI company, but drones of other firms, including Ukrainian ones. At the same time, Ukraine buys 60 per cent of the global production of Mavic series drones.
In parallel, the government is taking steps to accelerate the creation of a domestic UAV market. This week, Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers simplified the import of components that can be used to build drones and combat parts.
Last year, the Ukrainian Armed Forces used DJI Mavic drones for surveillance and ammunition drop. Now FPV drones, which are many times cheaper, are actively used for strikes. Nevertheless, the Chinese company's quadcopters continue to play an important role.
