Bloomberg: Apple won't release a new iMac until late 2023, but with an M3 chip
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, in his new newsletter, talks about when to expect the new iMac (spoiler: not soon).
Here's What We Know
According to the reporter, Apple has no plans to release a new 24-inch iMac before late 2023 or early 2024. At the same time, the company will skip updating the iMac with the M2 chip and instead release a model with an unannounced M3 processor.
The Apple M3 chip is expected to be manufactured using TSMC's latest 3nm process technology, providing additional performance and power efficiency improvements. In comparison, the current M2 is made using TSMC's second-generation 5nm process technology. In addition, the M3 is expected to be used in the MacBook Air notebook and possibly future versions of the 13-inch MacBook Pro and Mac mini.
Incidentally, Apple last updated the iMac in April 2021, adding the M1 chip, an updated design and 7 bright colours to choose from. This is currently the only new iMac available, as the 27-inch Intel-based iMac and iMac Pro have been discontinued.
