The U.S. and allies are already discussing the transfer of fighter jets and advanced air defense systems to Ukraine

Against the background of a successful counterattack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region, the U.S. and allies began discussing sending fighter jets and advanced air defense systems.

Here's What We Know

According to the Financial Times, the successes of the Ukrainian Defense Forces have encouraged many Western officials. But it is too early to rejoice, as the discussion is about sending weapons in the medium to long term.

What kind of weapons systems the U.S. and its allies may transfer is not yet known. Ukraine is currently waiting for German IRIS-T and Norwegian NASAMS air defense systems. Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov announced plans to obtain THAAD and Patriot.

As for fighter jets, the F-15 Eagle by McDonnel Douglas and F-16 Fighting Falcon by General Dynamics are most often mentioned in the information field. There are also Soviet MiG-29s, which Slovakia gave up and will get F-16s instead. Also, let's not forget the legendary A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft.
