Hanwa Defense brings the latest K9A2 Thunder modernized howitzer to the UK
South Korea's Hanwa Defense has brought the latest K9A2 Thunder self-propelled artillery unit to the UK at the Defence Vehicle Dynamic exhibition.
Here's What We Know
The Defence Vehicle Dynamic event takes place at the Millbrook Test Site. The South Korean company offered new howitzers to the U.K. as part of the Mobile Fires Platform program last summer.
The K9 Thunder was upgraded to A2 version by Hanwa Defense in cooperation with the state defense development agency, which funded the program. The improved self-propelled artillery unit features improved rate of fire and automatic ammunition loading.
For the UK, Hanwa Defense prepared the K9A2 Thunder with an improved turret, composite tracks, additional mine protection and an automated ammunition refill system using the Hanwa K10 robotic vehicle.
The deal also involves the transfer of South Korean technology to the UK. Lockheed Martin UK, Pearson Engineering, Horstman Defense Systems, Canada's Soucy Defense and other defense industry companies from the UK may participate in it.
