The Czech Republic has applied for the purchase of U.S. fifth generation fighters with F-35 Lightning II stealth technology
In mid-summer, we wrote that The Czech Republic will buy 24 5th-generation fighters F-35. Now there is information that the Ministry of Defense of the country has formalized the application.
Here's What We Know
The local publication Novinky writes about it. The application for the purchase of fighter jets must now be approved by the United States of America. The number of aircraft is not disclosed, but presumably we are talking about 24 fighters. The amount of the contract is also unknown, but apparently this will be the most expensive military purchase in the history of the country.
By the way, now the Czech Air Force has no planes of its own. The Czech Republic leased 12 Gripen fighters from Sweden to patrol the territory. The lease expires in 2027, but it may be extended for two more years.
Flashback
The F-35 Lightning II is the most advanced production fighter with a service life of 30 to 40 years. It is produced by the American company Lockheed Martin. The aircraft has stealth technology and is equipped with two air-to-air missiles, guided bombs and a 25mm cannon. F-35 Lightning II can fly up to 2,200 km distance and reach speeds of up to 1,931 km/h.
