The U.S. Department of Defense has approved the sale of two dozen Lockheed Martin military transport aircraft to Australia.
Here's What We Know
The aircraft in question are C-130J-30 Super Hercules. The Pentagon said in a statement that the sale of the planes will enhance Australia's ability to counter current and future threats. The U.S. will provide the Royal Air Force with a replacement for its aging fleet of cargo planes.

Australia will receive 24 transport aircraft, associated equipment, logistics and software. The deal will cost $6.35 billion, with Lockheed Martin as the key contractor.
The C-130J-30 Super Hercules is an elongated version of the C-130J. The military transport aircraft is the newest version of the C-130 Hercules and is in service with nearly two dozen countries.
