U.S. Navy allows Sikorsky to begin full-scale production of CH-53K King Stallion helicopters

Sikorsky, a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin, could begin full-scale production of CH-53K helicopters for the U.S. Marine Corps. The service will be able to double its purchases in the coming years.

Sikorsky representatives call the CH-53K the most technologically advanced helicopter in the world. Permission to launch full-scale production will allow the U.S. company to stabilize the supply chain (more than 200 companies) and underscores the reliability of the partnership with the Marine Corps.

The CH-53K King Stallion is the only multi-role, heavy-lift helicopter that will continue in production after 2032. The aircraft can carry a load of more than 12 tons to a distance of 200 km. It is oriented to transport personnel, equipment and machinery within the country.

The Navy this year has already had time to stop and resume flying the CH-53K King Stallion. The decision to suspend flights was made after it crashed during an exercise in early summer in California.

The Marine Corps intends to purchase 10 helicopters next year and 15 a year later. Since 2025, the service would like to purchase 21 CH-53K King Stallion helicopters annually.
