Video: F-22 Raptor destroys Chinese spy balloon that flew over US for days
The other day, the US Department of Defence officially confirmed that a spy balloon had flown over the country's territory. American authorities were certain that the balloon belonged to China, but did not risk shooting it down because the wreckage could endanger civilian lives. However, the balloon was destroyed.
Here's What We Know
On February 1, 2023, the balloon was spotted over the state of Montana. The spy balloon continued eastward. Fifth-generation F-22 Raptor fighter jets were used for surveillance and were stationed at Nellis Air Force Base.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), which coordinates the air defense of Canada and the US, said the Chinese blimp posed no threat to civilians or the military. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), meanwhile, closed the airspace.

On February 4, the balloon was destroyed over the coast of California. An F-22 Raptor fighter jet was used. The destruction of the balloon was broadcast live on Fox News America.
