The Spanish Navy has tested the new Isaac Peral S-81, which will be able to carry UGM-84 Sub-Harpoon and UGM-109 Tomahawk missiles

The Spanish Navy's Isaac Peral S-81 submarine dived for the first time. The test took place at La Algameca base.

The submarine's submergence is a transitional phase before testing in the submerged position. Experts from Navantina and the Spanish Navy checked the displacement and assessed the longitudinal stability.

The first stage of the tests, which took place in the shipbuilding company's weapons dock, involved measuring the submarine's draft. The same procedures were repeated in the third phase. In the second phase of tests, the submarine was sent to the open sea. The tests lasted for eight hours.

Isaac Peral S-81 is one of the largest submarines that is not equipped with a nuclear engine. It is 62 metres long and 7.3 metres in diameter. It has a displacement of 2,965 tonnes. The crew consists of 53 people.

Initially Isaac Peral S-81 will receive DM2A4 heavy torpedoes, UGM-84 Sub-Harpoon anti-ship missiles and SAES mines. In the future, the submarine will be equipped with UGM-109 Tomahawk cruise missiles.
