Morocco's army could strengthen its artillery capabilities in the coming years. The US State Department has approved the sale of the M142 HIMARS with ammunition.
Here's What We Know
Morocco's defence ministry has earmarked $524.2m for the purchase of 18 M142 HIMARS highly mobile artillery rocket systems and 40 ATACMS operational-grade ballistic missiles, which have a launch range of up to 300km. The potential deal also includes the purchase of M30A2 and A31A2 GMLRS rockets (36 each).
As always, the US State Department indicated that the sale of arms to Morocco would enhance US national security by enhancing the security of a non-NATO ally. The US Department of Defense added that the deal will not affect the defence capability of the US armed forces.
