US, Ukraine, UK, Germany and 10 other countries take part in massive military exercise Aurora 23
Today, 17 April, the military exercise Aurora 23 began in Sweden. For Sweden, this is the biggest such event in more than 25 years.
Here's What We Know
Aurora 23 will enhance Sweden's overall defence capabilities and sharpen interaction with international partners. The exercise will take place until 11 May 2023. All branches of the armed forces and approximately 26,000 troops will participate.
The exercise will take place at sea, on land and in the air. The event will concentrate on the southern part of the Nordic country, the island of Gotland and surrounding areas. The air part of the exercise will begin on April 24 and continue until May 11.
In addition to Sweden, 13 other nations will participate in Aurora 23. They include the US, UK, Ukraine, Germany, Poland, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Norway, Denmark, Austria and France.
