Germany has officially approved the purchase of 12 Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers worth €190.7 million

About two months ago we learned that Germany wants to purchase 28 Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled artillery units. This week the government approved the purchase of 12 units.

Here's What We Know

The German Ministry of Defence has decided to purchase new self-propelled howitzers to replace those that have been handed over to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Berlin has dispatched a total of 14 Panzerhaubitze 2000 units and will now buy twice as many.

In March this year, Germany's budget committee approved the purchase of 10 howitzers worth €180m ($193m). The new announcement says it will buy 12 Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled artillery units at a cost of €190.7 million ($205 million). The German Armed Forces will receive them in 2026.

The budget committee also approved the purchase of the first Leopard 2A8 tanks and a P-8A Poseidon simulator. Germany will receive five Boeing patrol aircraft by 2025, according to the contract, which was approved in 2021.
