Boeing has received $793m to manufacture its latest batch of CH-47F Block I Chinook helicopters

US defence contractor Boeing is preparing to complete production of the CH-47F Block I Chinook helicopter. The company has been awarded the contract for the latest batch.

Here's What We Know

The latest batch of CH-47F Block I consists of 19 helicopters. 18 units will fly to the Republic of Korea and only one aircraft will be delivered to Spain. The agreement amounted to $793 million. Deliveries will be completed by 2027.

Once the contract is fulfilled, Boeing will be able to focus on production of Block II helicopters. They feature increased altitude and range, an improved powertrain and upgraded fuel tanks.

The CH-47F Block I Chinook continues to be an outstanding helicopter, capable of transporting heavy payloads. Heather McBryan, vice president and program manager of Boeing's H-47 Vertical Lift program, said.

Boeing now has contracts with the US Army, US Special Operations Forces and UK Special Operations Forces. They will receive six, 36 and 14 helicopters respectively. A company press release notes that the Special Operations Forces have had the CH-47F Block I Chinook in service for several years, while the Army will receive its first helicopter early next year.
